From insight to development: what's next for Helix?

When we launched our AI skills intelligence platform, Helix, last month, it wasn’t just about announcing a new platform. It was about delivering on something L&D teams have been asking for: a better way to see how soft skills are actually developing in the flow of work.

We started with what we’re calling the Core 9. These are the nine foundational soft skills that matter as a team player and leader:

  • Accountability
  • Active listening
  • Change management
  • Coachability
  • Coaching
  • Communication
  • Growth mindset
  • Results focus
  • Strategic vision

These are the skills that are reflected upon in performance reviews, development plans, and job specs. But until now, they’ve been notoriously hard to measure in a real-world setting. Helix changes that, by capturing signals from the way people actually work, especially in meetings and collaborative tools like Google Meets, Microsoft Teams and Zoom. It gives you a live, evolving view of where strengths are emerging, where support might be needed, and whether your L&D efforts are really making a difference.

But visibility is only the first step.

We didn’t build Helix just to surface data and insights, we built it to drive development. That’s why we’ve now integrated it with VeeCoach, our AI-powered coaching agent that lives inside the 5app Hub. If Helix shows you someone’s struggling with, say, change management, VeeCoach can help them improve it, through tailored nudges, curated learning content and scenario-based coaching that fits their day-to-day work.

VeeCoach is more than just another chatbot. It’s a learning companion, tuned to each person’s actual behaviour and development needs. It supports learners directly, offering guidance that’s relevant to actual witnessed behaviour in the workplace, and most importantly is actionable.

This integration marks a big next step in our product roadmap. Helix + VeeCoach means we’re not just identifying skill gaps – we’re helping to close them. Soft skills become measurable AND developable, with intelligence and support working together in one continuous loop.

To bring it all to life, we’re taking Helix on the road.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be visiting seven UK cities, for a series of short, informal meetups; including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. We’ll be showing Helix live, sharing what’s coming next, and speaking directly from L&D leaders to shape the future of learning technology.

We'd love to see you in a city near you, so pick a date and book some time with us when we take Helix on tour this autumn – the coffee's on me!
